The Junior Chemist assists in the research and development of new products, as well as the maintenance and reformulation of current products using project management best practices. Communicates frequently with Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, raw material suppliers and customers to ensure that the product meets consumer and industry expectations.

  • Assist in developing new technical coating chemistries for use on metal, wood and other temperature sensitive substrates.
  • Prepare and characterize product in accordance with goals determined by Management Team. Complete small lab samples as requested for projects or customers.
  • Monitor production trials of line extensions or color matches.
  • Perform quality control and quality testing as required.
  • Interpret test data and results analysis.
  • Maintain laboratory chemical and material inventories required to complete assigned projects. Maintain computer and hard files of raw materials and formulations.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks, files and electronic records and associated paperwork in an orderly, understandable and traceable manner to ensure accuracy, completeness and reproducibility.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Meet with suppliers of raw materials when necessary
  • All other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related scientific field. Previous experience in technical coatings in a research and development laboratory preferred. Solid technical skills a must. Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently required. Must have strong organizational, verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate effectively within all levels of the organization. Working knowledge of various analytical instruments and methods required. Basic understanding of manufacturing processes with ability to scale up processes to production preferred.
