As a Chemist for Forrest Technical Coatings you’ll have the opportunity to play an integral part in the innovation and development of our world class coatings used by customers worldwide. The Chemist is responsible for the creative development of new products and product platforms for coating markets, including formula design, preparation and application of coatings, as well as testing of these coatings against a wide range of customer requirements. The Chemist’s portfolio of projects are typically of moderate complexity and may include material evaluations and substitutions, along with line extensions, color matches and new products. This position requires excellent communication with sales, marketing, manufacturing, raw material suppliers, and the customer to ensure that products meet consumer and industry expectations and company roadmap needs.

-Lead product development efforts to deliver sustainable products leading to new sales of existing products and new products.
-Scale-up and support of the formulas in the manufacturing area including establishment of specifications and test methods, fine tuning of the formula to allow first time OK quality and problem solving.
-Customer field support of the products in the customer's facility. Specific areas include: participation in trials and launch to assure optimal performance of the products, problem solving as appropriate, and preparation of reports to assist in problem solving and communication throughout the customer organization.
-Research new materials.
-Material evaluation and substitution to support purchasing and optimize product costs.
-Maintain strict adherence to ISO, maintain WBS, files, electronic records, and associated paperwork.
-Conduct competitive product evaluations and bench marking of relevant products.
-Mentor and train junior chemists.
-Conform to all environmental health and safety regulation.
-Evaluate and communicate the results of lab experiments and tests for presentations and written reports.
-Perform LEAN activities as determined by the company.
-Perform all duties in line with laboratory safety requirements and housekeeping/5S.
-Pursue continuous improvement.
-Lead product development efforts to deliver sustainable products leading to new sales of existing products and new products.
-All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering or Physical Science preferred. Experience in a research and development laboratory desired. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with computer proficiency (MS Office) required. Must be able to work independently and complete assignments within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
